Harborview Medical Center’s Rehabilitation Therapies and Clinics has an outstanding opportunity for a part-time (60% FTE), day shift, RECREATION THERAPIST 2 for our Inpatient Rehabilitation team. This position is designed to meet the needs of patients to include inpatient rehabilitation. Primary diagnoses treated on the inpatient rehabilitation unit include spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury and stroke.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assess, plan, administer, evaluate and provide safe therapeutic recreation therapy for the patients on the inpatient rehabilitation unit. This includes progression of treatment, establishing goals and engaging in patient and family education, and assessment and treatment of a patient caseload ranging from routine to complex patient problems
  • Communicate evaluation results and treatment plans to team members
  • Act as a resource within the Rehab Therapies Department for other health care professionals
  • Collaborate with rehabilitation colleagues and management to identify clinical/program needs
  • Participate in quality improvement programs
  • Drive van to transport patients
  • Perform other duties as required

Competitive candidates will have the ability to follow protocols, standards and guidelines of care relating to specific diagnosis on assigned service; document intervention and strategies for treatment in required organizational systems; comply with agency and division standards, protocols procedures.

REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from an accredited Therapeutic Recreation Program AND 18 months of professional therapeutic recreation experience
OR
Equivalent education/experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Washington state driver’s license
  • Knowledge of the disease process, precautions, typical medical treatment and diagnostic procedures, functional, abilities, complications and implications of long term deficits related to primary diagnoses treated in service area
  • Knowledge of other treatment team member roles with intervention and effective methods to collaborate in patient treatment
  • Ability to communicate/articulate (verbally and written) and integrate safety policies and procedures into daily practice to different levels of professions

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Necessary Physical Attributes Include:

  • Occasionally to frequently requires transfer of patients weighing up to or exceeding 200 lbs. needing maximum assistance from wheelchair to pool deck and back
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time
  • Requires ability to assist in transporting patients to various locations on the HMC campus for evaluations, treatments or discharge
  • Requires hand dexterity for manual treatment techniques and to operate equipment
  • May be required to do direct lifting up to 40 lbs
  • Meet Washington State Vehicle Licensing requirements
  • Ability to sit at computer terminal
