Learn how sports can be the catalyst for life for those with physical disabilities\, promoting self-worth\, independence\, and success.  \nSpeaker: Tomie Zuchetto \nTitle of Session: Confronting Mortality\, How RT/TR Professional can help Consumers increase their Quality of Life.  \n Session Description: As Baby Boomers age they are changing the way we engage and treat the dying. This session will help the TR/RT professional work with people who are confronting they own mortality. As TR/RT professionals we need to be prepared to participate in clear and honest conversations about perceived control and quality of life. In order to do this we will explore our own feelings about death and dying. The changes that are happening in the current health care paradigm\, and how TR/RT’s can facilitate interventions to help patients and families address their own mortality will be covered. \nSpeaker: Barb Steubing \nTitle of Session: Emergency Preparedness and Disability \nSession Description:. This session will discuss what you need to be prepared for an emergency situation as a person with a disability. We will review common Emergencies in Washington State. What resources are available for consumers to help be prepared for emergency situations including home fires\, wildfires\, poor air quality\, drought\, lighting\, power loss\, evacuations and earthquakes. This session will be interactive\, please bring your phone so you can practice. \nSpeakers: Barb Stuebing CTRS/R Sara Dunbar CTRS/R\n \nTitle of Session: Therapeutic Recreation Internships – Educator and Practitioner Perspectives \nSession Description: This session will explore the preparation\, implementation\, and evaluation of a Therapeutic Recreation internship from the perspective of both an educator and a practitioner.  \n Speakers: Emily Messina\, PhD\, CTRS/R and Sara Dunbar\, CTRS/R\n \n Title of Session: Therapeutic Recreation and Yoga for Children and Adolescents with Emotional Behavioral Disorders \nSession Description: Learn how yoga can be used through Therapeutic Recreation for children and adolescents with emotional behavioral disorders in a residential treatment setting. Understand how modifications can be made to fit your client’s needs. Find ways to become certified as a yoga teacher in your community. Discover how yoga can benefit your own life as a CTRS or provider of care.  \nSpeaker: Ashley Skardtvelt \n  \nTitle of Session: Wellness and Recovery Action Plan (WRAP®)\, as strategy for TR service delivery. \nSession Description: This session will illustrate the value of integrating Therapeutic Recreation practices in support WRAP® concepts. This seminar will provide Recreational Therapists a foundational understanding WRAP.WRAP® is a wellness and recovery approach that helps people to: 1) decrease and prevent intrusive or troubling feelings and behaviors; 2) increase personal empowerment; 3) improve quality of life; and 4) achieve their own life goals and dreams. Working with a WRAP® can help individuals to monitor uncomfortable and distressing feelings and behaviors and\, through planned responses\, reduce\, modify\, or eliminate those feelings. In 2010\, WRAP® was recognized by the United States Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) as evidence- based practice and listed in the National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices.  \n Speaker: Kelly Sipes \nTitle of Session: Role-Playing Games as Intervention Modalities to Achieve Therapeutic & Educational Goals for Individuals & Groups from the Therapeutic Recreation Perspective. \nSession Description: Background & research information about the effects of RPG. Addresses inculcated concepts regarding RPG and gamers. Present research that RPGs have many inherent benefits\, and any caveats including regular\, adaptive\, & modifications to achieve educational and therapeutic goals. Summarize current research on gender-bias issues in the gaming industry & community will also be included. Present importance of inclusion of an “Accessibility Advocate” for adaptations of RPGs for large events. \nSpeaker: W.A. Hawkes Robinson
