JOB POSTING: Recreational Therapist, Comprehensive Life Resources, Tacoma, WA

Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee planning and implementation of therapeutic recreation program.
  2. Teach leisure and social skills.
  3. Plan and coordinate socialization and recreational activities.
  4. Provide direct care in therapeutic recreational program which is appropriate for residents and consistent with the program goals of increasing skills, maximizing potential, and increasing level of independent functioning.
  5. Coordinate ongoing recreation activities.
  6. Provide direct therapeutic assessments of residents.
  7. Participate in treatment planning and plan updates specific to recreation.
  8. Write residential treatment summaries.
  9. Implement performance improvement duties as assigned.
  10. Provide in-service training to staff regarding recreation as assigned.
  11. Provide data and reports as necessary for program monitoring and evaluation.
  12. Attend and participate in treatment team meetings, staffings, and training sessions.
  13. Ensure the care, safety, and supervision of residents.
  14. Utilize individualized and tailored care, taking into consideration the specific needs and strengths of residents.
  15. Instruct, assist, and provide skill development and overall supervision to residents regarding daily living activities, life skills, social skills, vocational skills, and leisure/recreation skills and activities.
  16. Plan and lead educational and information groups for residents.
  17. Coordinate and interact professionally, cooperatively, and promptly with other team members. When on the milieu, is supervised by the shift leader.
  18. Establish and maintain a therapeutic relationship with residents and actively support the program by participating in all activities during scheduled shifts.
  19. Respond promptly to pager messages, as required.
  20. Work to ensure communication among team members during and between shifts.
  21. Work with team members to create and contribute to a positive learning environment for all.
  22. Implement scheduled and non-scheduled recreation groups and activities focused on community integration.
  23. Ensure proper use, maintenance, and storage of all recreation equipment and supplies.
  24. Document the provision of care and the clinical and behavioral observations of residents in the progress notes.
  25. Document all accidents, special treatment procedure, and extraordinary occurrences, and submit reports to the program manager.
  26. Report unsafe conditions and needed repairs to shift supervisor, program manager, or safety officer.
  27. Actively seek, schedule, and participate in clinical supervision.
  28. Use appropriate problem resolution activities to resolve conflicts.
  29. Complete family recreation assessments for those families identified by treatment team.
  30. Complete orientation of new employees regarding the recreation component of treatment.
  31. Coordinate and implement physical education credits for school by providing physical conditioning classes.
  32. Ensure that ethical and professional standards of practice are maintained.
  33. In addition to the above, perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Competencies:

  • Ability to complete paperwork within required time frames, meets content requirements, grammatically correct, and engages client participation in treatment planning and RX plans are signed by the client.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in practice, develops strong relationships with other employees, and provides good team communication and engages family members and natural supports in treatment planning.
  • Ability to receive and apply feedback, is accountable, and contributes to a positive work environment.
  • Develops and maintains a self-care plan, seeks supervision when needed and recognizes signs of burnout.
  • Demonstrates timely, consistent, and direct communication is provided to team members and supervisors.
  • Demonstrates utilization of all resources available
  • Demonstrates diagnosing, engagement skills through use of relationships and application of motivational interviewing, and crisis intervention skills through a variety of clientele.
  • Ability to utilize consultation and feedback, and utilizes training for professional development.
  • Demonstrates ethical decision-making skills and appropriate boundaries.
  • Ability to meet productivity requirements and consumers are discharged with improved symptoms as evidenced by client report, PHQ-9 and PSC-17.
  • Demonstrate empathy, hopefulness, and resourcefulness in communicating with others.
  • Promote whole health care as a key to people’s recovery and quality of life.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy.
  • One year experience with children and/or adolescents in a therapeutic setting. One year experience in recreation therapy.
  • Certified as a Recreation Therapist (CTRS).
  • WA State registered recreation therapist.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, organizational, training, written, and verbal communications skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize deadlines, work independently, take initiative, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Skilled in MS Word and Outlook.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license; proof of insurance.
