PART-TIME PROGRAM STAFF to provide community activities and develop community connections for adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities. We, at L.Turner Associates, inc., provide Community Access Services through the use of activities to develop community connections for adults who have intellectual/developmental disabilities. The purpose of this program is to promote greater involvement in the community for older adults with intellectual disabilities by providing assistance to participate in community settings. Most clients are located in North Seattle, Shoreline or Bothell.

ACCEPTING RESUMES: (e-mail preferred): Starting April 1, 2015 until job is filled.

SALARY: $13.25 per hour (starting), increase after 3 month probation period.

BENEFITS: Semi-flexible daytime hours (9am-5pm, weekdays). Free training in a growing field.

POSITION AVAILABLE: 1 part-time (approx. 25 hrs. per week to start)

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: PART-TIME STAFF: Provide one-to-one instruction and assistance by using community-based activities as a means to integrate adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities into the community in which they live. Duties include: accompany and assist adults who have an intellectual disability to learn community access skills (volunteering, transportation skills, recreational activities, social and behavioral skill development). Use community-based activities to develop community connections and opportunities. Help clients maintain socially appropriate behavior in community settings. Staff are required to document on a weekly basis, a client’s progress towards their goals. Staff must transport clients with their personal auto and coordinate public/specialized transportation. Experience in the delivery of community access opportunities, community activity development, creation of community connections, and provision of 1-1 assistance and training for older individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities, is a plus.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Must be 21 years of age. Hold current WA drivers license, and have insured vehicle (proof must be provided on a regular basis). Good driving record a must. Good writing, organizational, and people skills. Ability to meet deadlines and complete written work on time and with clarity. Physical ability to push a wheelchair, support an individual with a wheelchair transfer, or to physically support individuals who have difficulty walking. Provide attendant care when required. Be able to use a computer, write in Microsoft Word, and email documents. Washington State law requires state and federal criminal background checks. Associate college degree or higher.

PERSONAL QUALITIES: responsible, intelligent, self-motivated, friendly, patient, alert, outgoing and able to complete written work on time.

HELPFUL SKILLS/BACKGROUND: Previous paid or volunteer work with individuals with intellectual or other developmental disabilities. Ability to develop community activities and connections for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities. Recreational Therapy skills. Computer skills. Training in human behavior, sociology, social work, or adaptive recreation is beneficial.
